CAPE TOWN – The Greater Cape Town Civic Alliance wants Premier Helen Zille to focus specifically on crime and the needs of poor during her State of the Province Address (Sopa).

Zille will begin to outline her government’s plan for the province at 10:30am today.

This is her seventh address since the Democratic Alliance (DA) was elected into power following the 2009 general elections.

The civic alliance’s Phillip Bam says, “What we would like to hear is that how is the province on low policing international competency, what are they going to do to make our communities safer and how are they going to empower the communities to deal with drugs and gangsterism.”

An independent political analyst believes Zille will use her Sopa to highlight her administration successes.

Analyst Daniel Silke says Zille will use the platform to showcase the differences between her government and the rest of the country.

“She will continue to try and differentiate service delivery in the Western Cape from service delivery on a national level or in other provinces where there have been deficiencies and she will continue to try and show that the DA in her view performs better than the African National Congress.”
