Save Princess Vlei public information & objection event on Saturday 2nd October 2010

A very busy day and buzzing with indignant community members and people from far away who wish to see the preservation of this beautiful Princess Vlei - which could totally be destroyed by a shopping centre and taxi ranks. Children gathered and sang traditional songs and a fisherman brought his catch to show us as protestors signed their objection letters which Graham meticulously, collected for submission to the City. This is one project that the Greater Cape Town Civic Alliance will bust a gut to prevent happening. Our Architect is already drawing up plans for an Information Centre/tea room and theatre for learning and Remembrance Hall celebrating the life of The Khoisan Princess whose tears make up the Princess Vlei. - Len Swimmer

I was appalled to hear about the the shopping centre developement And am now extremely glad that there has been a change of plan, and that is to plant floura and forna instead. How could anyone be so cruel the vlei is home to so many bird species which my husband always talks abouts as he grew up oppsite the vlei. I now live in Australia, and my first place of call when I visit is is the vlei. Who needs a concrete jungle. So I urge everyone from the area to fight to bring the vlei back to its former glory.
